To start it off
From My internship in D.C in Washington, United States on Jun 06 '09
I moved into Henle and realized very quickly that I had packed too much and my apartment was on the top floor. 3 flights of steps and 2 hours later I had finally moved onto Georgetown's campus.
I learned a lot of important things within those first few days. The most important being, do not wear your work shoes on the way to work; make sure to bring flip-flops and change. On the first day I had my internship the bus dropped me off at Dupont circle. I started off on what I thought was the right way. After an hour of walking around in very uncomfortable shoes I finally hobbled my way to the front door. My shoes were blood soaked and my day was in shambles.
Luckily, I never had a day that bad again. My internship was at the World Wildlife Fund. My supervisor, Amanda, is one of the most enthusiastic and cheerful people I know. She quickly started me off on rewriting a website for one of WWF's many programs which help large companies reduce their carbon emissions.
I went into WWF from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays I had class from 6:30 to 9:30. Safe to say by the end of the week I was exhausted. I had 2 classes, one each month. The schedule was intense.
The first class was philosophy and covered ethics in journalism. The second class was economics in journalism. I had also had guest lectures every Tuesday given by professionals in the media.
Ethics began with lectures concerning basic information. It focused on three people and their beliefs in morality. Aristotle, Mills and Kant filled up my class hours with their ideas and arguments. Dr. Reynolds is an incredible professor and an even better story teller. He made the 3 hour classes much more bearable, encourages class participation and was very fair in his expectations and grading.
