Revisiting old Friends

I finally made it back to Antigua at 9pm the following day, having been on the bus since 4am! What a day! 3 borders and 4 countries and I was exceedingly exhausted!

It was lovely to be back in Antigua, somewhere that had really come to feel like home to me and I wasted no time in enjoying the things I loved most about it, namely the good food, excellent nightlife and luxuries such as beauty spas!

Highlights of my few days here included

- catching up with Monica from La Fortuna in Costa Rica who had been volunteering at safe passage. It was so nice to see her for a few drinks and find out all of her gossip adn share mine.

-getting my hair done at last by Karla, the only hairdresser I trust out here! I can now go home with decent hair and not half yellow, half brown sundamaged locks!

- treating myself to a massage and pedicure... pure bliss!

- eating at the papas bar again- i went there twice with different friends to show them how nice it was and just to generally hang out. I will miss the wonderful food served by spanish chef Ernesto and the decent wine... the only good value stuff i´ve found in Central America!

- seeing Itty, Izzy and Emma again (from Leon) and meeting their friend May. we had a wicked night out at the tapas bar and then on to see Ignacio Borell (original Buena Vista Social Club member) play at Rikkis bar. The man is a legend and we all got dragged up to dance by various ardent locals!

- revisiting the project and seeing my lovely kiddies again. I was worried that the older ones wouldn´t remember me but they all came over and gave me the biggest hug when i came off the court from a charity basketball match we were playing. I was soooo happy to see them all well after the swine flu scare and amazed at how much the really small ones had grown in only 6 weeks! (same behaviours though- celvin still tries to bite everyone then gets all sad when you put him in the bad chair!)

- generally relaxing in such a beautiful city, probably my facourite place on my trip adn seeing old friends again.

Whilst there i was wondering what to do with myself for my last 2 and a half weeks when i spotted an ad for a sailing trip from Rio Dulce to Belize and back. At 375 dollars for 7 days in a hammock it seemed way too good to miss so i made sure that i signed up! As i write this i am in Rio Dulce awaiting boarding and I am so excitred... i think it´ll be the perfect way to end my trip before heading back into Mexico for the final week.

I´ll let you know how it goes!!
