Strange Sights in Juneau

What ARE the strange sights in Juneau?

Tuesday, I saw two different people leaving Costco, each carrying an air conditioner. I had never seen anyone buy an air conditioner here before. But, after four days with temperatures above 85, and another six predicted, I guess they decided air conditioners were a need here.

Also, downtown and on the way to Home Depot, two different men stood by the road with signs asking for work. I had never seen that here either. One friend had a typical response: “I hope they were not local” people who had no other alternative. Wherever they come from, this is a sign that the recession is affecting Juneau.
