Family Vacation in Orrs Island

Dan and I were planning a road trip to New England in hopes of combining a vacation with also visiting family on the east coast. As I was looking for places to stay, I found a cute cottage that caught my eye. We then invited his brothers and their wives and turned it into a family vacation for four days.

We stayed on Orrs Island located about an hour from Portland. Orrs Island is located on the Casco Bay. Our cottage was overlooking the water with steps leading down to the dock. During low tide, we walked out on the sand, during high tide we went swimming off of the dock. Mostly we hung out on the porch and enjoyed the sunset. Orr's Island is pretty sleepy - there are a few cute little stores scattered about, a place to take Kayaking tours and if you head right over the bridge you can have dinner at a pretty good lobster restaurant on Baily Island, Cook's Lobster House. I went running along the only main road and it felt pretty safe with rolling hills.

The cottage we rented slept 8 - the only issue with the loft that doubled as a bedroom. It was located at the top of the stairs and people sleeping there couldn't sleep in or count on any privacy. This is probably better suited for teenages and we didn't have any.

It rained a few of the days we were there, so we headed to Freeport, home of LL Bean.

I would love to stay here again for a longer amount of time, hopefully with better weather :)
