After a big breakfast of french toast with huckleberry syrup, we were ready to hike the Rockies.  We took a one-hour shuttle up a windy, narrow road called Going-To-The-Sun Road, to Logan’s Pass.  The view and scenery was absolutely stunning.  To Taylor’s surprise, we hiked not one, but two trails.  Our first trail was called the Highline Trail, and we now know why.  Needless to say it was a cliffhanger!  We hiked along a mountainside sharing a narrow path with other oncoming hikers and holding a cable attached to the mountain in case one lost their footing.  You will notice from the photos that Taylor was not entirely happy about being forced to share the trail with a mountain goat, but she got through it.  After that she just had to watch out for the chipmunks, marmots, and picas.  Unfortunately, we had to turn back after about two miles as it appeared a storm was setting in.  It was a great opportunity for the girls to go into the visitor’s center to get certified as a Jr. Park Ranger.  They worked very hard to earn the certification and they each enjoyed it so much that they plan to be certified in every National Park we visit.  (Thanks for the recommendation Ethne.)

Instead of waiting out the rain, we decided to take a shuttle to a heavily wooded trail a few miles down the road.  Once we were on the Jackson Glacier trail, we didn’t even notice it was raining.  Although I was heckled, I pulled out my whistle in case our family was assaulted by a grizzly bear while hiking the heavily vegetated trail.  Instead we came across a deer standing so close off the trail that we could see its eye lashes.  About three miles further down we encountered the most beautiful waterfall!  It was definitely worth the six mile hike!
