Before embarking on this trip, I could count on one hand the number of archaeological sites I had visited. Such places are not as prevalent in the United States as they are in more ancient parts of the world; Turkey, Cyprus, and Greece, on the other hand, are richer in history than almost anywhere else. In Turkey, we joked that we were “tripping over ruins,” especially on a couple of the longer hikes where the trips were more literal. By the end of the trip, though, we all were “experts of tourism,” as Dr. Moore put it. In five weeks, this trip took me through archaeological sites of every ilk, more than most people are lucky enough to see in a lifetime. I have been through museums after hours and been personally taken behind the “yellow tape” so to speak of ancient Troy by an excavator. I have sung on the stage of Roman theatres, snorkelled over sunken cities, climbed sheer rock faces to reach ancient churches, and so much more.
What I have learned cannot be quantified or broken down into neat little categories. I have learned about history, the world, and most importantly, myself.

I count myself fortunate for each and every experience. Collectively, they have taught me more than I could ever share. What I have learned cannot be quantified or broken down into neat little categories. I have learned about history, the world, and most importantly, myself. This trip -- so much more than a vacation -- has changed me, and thus, changed the course of my entire life. I have altered my plans for the future as a direct result. Despite the stress and expense, I could never regret my decision to attend Turkey/Cyprus 2009. My experiences this summer will stay with me forever.
