After an uneventful bus journey on quite a nice coach from Penang we arrived in Kuala Lumpur at around 4pm. We took a taxi from the bus stop and arrived at our hostel 'Attapsana Guest House.' The hostel is really nice and only a short walk away from the main shopping malls and just 15 mins away from the Petronas Twin Towers.

On our first full day we visited the shopping malls of which there are plenty. We began at the Berjiya Times Square mall, the biggest in SE Asia. It was quite overwhelming with at least 8 huge floors full of shops. We spent hours looking around - eventually finding Barney some shoes and we had some lunch there. We then went on to Sungei Wang mall, another huge complex, before heading back.

The next day we were up early to get in line for tickets to go up to the skybridge between the Petronas Towers. The queue when we arrived was huge but we managed to get tickets for the midday visit so we went and had a wander around the adjoining mall called Suria KLCC. This was a bit more upmarket and had more designer shops than you could ever imagine - unfortunately at the same price as we would pay at home! At midday we headed for our sky bridge visit which gave an amazing view out over Kuala Lumpur. However after about 5 minutes the rain and fog set in and we couldn't see much after that. The rest of the afternoon we spent at the mall and around 4pm we went to watch Transformers 2 at the cinema. It was really good and the tickets were only 2 pounds each, bargain! After the cinema we had dinner at the malls food court and then took some photos of the Petronas towers lit up at night time.

The next day we went by monorail to Lake Titiwangsa. It was very hot so by the time we got there we were knackered. The lake was nice and we had lunch on a picnic table next to it before having a wander around and then heading back to get out of the heat!

On Sunday we decided to check out China Town. We took the monorail and then switched to a train but quickly realised we were going in the wrong direction so we got off and caught the right train back again! When we eventually got to China Town we had a walk around the main sights taking in various temples before having a wander down the main shopping street of Jalan Petaling. The market was full of every kind of fake designer handbags, watches and DVD's you can imagine and it was extremely busy! In the evening we had dinner at Blue Boys Vegetarian Food Centre which did a fantastic veggie fried rice, with fake meat for about 80p!

On Monday we caught the train and headed 2km out of the city to visit the Mid Valley Mega Mall. The complex was huge wih 5 floors of shops along with a 38 lane bowling alley and an 18 screen cinema. We spent the day wandering around the shops and had some dinner at the amazing food court. We also went bowling which was significantly cheaper than in the UK but we had a bit of a problem with the bowling balls as the finger holes were too small....not designed for western hands!

On our final day in Kuala Lumpur we relaxed and sorted our stuff out before going to a nice Irish Pub in the evening for some 'pub grub' and a pint...cider for me, Guinness for Barney!

Until next time

Teresa and Barney xx
