Beijing or Peking (pop. 11,940,000) - China's capital

Chinas Hauptstadt und zweitgroesste Stadt. Ich wuerd sagen eine typische asiatische Grosstadt.

Kurz vor 6.00 h in der frueh erreichten wir Beijing. Hier wird in jeder Bahnstation dein Gepaeck durch den Roentgenapparat geschickt; wie nervig mit schwerem Gepaeck. Geoff ist mir immer noch auf den Fersen und hat sich spontan angeschlossen wir immernoch zu folgen. Ist mir ganz recht. Wieder durch 'couchsurfing' habe ich uns eine Uebernachtsmoeglichkeit bei dem Chinesen Tommy besorgt.

In Beijing haben wir uns den Olympic Park und den 'Summer Palace' (Sommerpalast) angesehen. Die Busfahrt vom Palast zum beruehmten 'Tiananmen Square' - dem groesstem, befestigtem Platz der Welt - hat zwei Stunden gedauert, ja, Beijing ist gross and der Verkehr ist furchtbar. Auf dem Platz haben wir uns mit der Finnin Liisa auf ein Drink und zum Abendessen getroffen. Der Kontakt kam wieder durch couchsurfing. Habe schon lange nicht mehr mit anderen Backpackern gesprochen.

Ich fand, dass Beijing nicht viel mehr zu bieten hat und habe mich dann diesmal spontan Geoff angeschlossen. Wir haben uns ein Bahnticket nach Datong besorgt.

Just before 6 am we arrived in Beijing. Here your luggage has to go through x-ray in train and subway stations; a bit annoying with all the luggage. Geoff is still following me. I am glad to have some company. I found a couch surfing host at Tommy's place a young Chinese guy.

We visited the 'Olympic Park' and the 'Summer Palace'. The bus trip from the palace to the famous 'Tianamen Square' - the largest open-urban square in the world - took us two hours. Beijing is big and the traffic is horrible. At the square we met Liisa a Finnish girl I met through couch surfing. We went out for drinks and dinner. Long time ago I talked to backpackers. I thought I have seen enough in one day in Beijing and decided to go with Geoff. We bought a ticket for thenight train  to Datong.
