Day 126 - BULA DANCE...!
From The Chronicles of Erin and Lucy in Kuata Island, Fiji on May 27 '09
So we once again got up for brekkie at 8am and then headed to the beach for another day of sunning ourselves. Lucy went for a little snorkel as the reef was just off the beach and we also saw some mantarays from the shore. Then after lunch at 2.30pm it was our turn to leave the island. We said goodbye to Becky and Ellie and off we went, headed for Kuata.
The boat trip was about an hour and as we were getting off the big boat and onto the little boat we got talking to 3 girls, Charlie, Sophie and Anika. This is where the friendship started. It was all banter when we got into the small boat due to there being very little space and it was all good fun. Once on the island everyone but Erin and I got shown to their dorm as we had booked directly. We waited and then we got told that we had been upgraded to a double wooohooo!! So we got shown to our Bure and it was a cute little hut with a bathroom with no light and a shower and a bedroomw itha double bed and a poor effort of a light. Once dumping our bags we went for a cup of tea with the girls and also met Jenn.
Kava Time!
We drank our tea and chatted for pretty much about 2 hours tillwe went to change for dinner and then we went for dinner at 6.30pm. It was goood. After dinner it was time for the entertainment. We got shown the Bula Dance and then we had to get up and do it and it is now our favourite dance... Don't worry you'll all get to see it when we get home. Once we had done this we also played the Broom Game where when the brrom was dropped you had to change partners and the Stick Game which was the same apart from you were passing the stick and if you ahd it whne the music stopped you were out. It was all good fun. After dinner we sat with the girls and were joined by Jade and Jen and Noah, Mark and Roger(Niall). We all managed to get pretty much very drunk and also tried kava. Kava is the Fijian alcohol. But it isn't alcohol, its a tree root that has something in it that makes you feel liek you are on drugs basically. It's horrible and tasted like soil and so we all stuck to the alcohol bar Noah who drank loads and started seeing things.
After doing this we all got up and did the Bula dance again and then a bonfire was lit. Jenn also met Mr Fiji haha. He was nice and then everyone disappeard and just Lucy and Charlie were sitting ina circle with some Fijians while Charlie belted our Total Eclipse of the Heart and Wonderwall. Eventually at 12.30am we hit the pillow after a very funny night!
Lots of love xxx
