Situated below the Five Old Gentlemen Peaks in the southern part of the island of Xiamen, Nanputuo Temple was first built in the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) and is one of the sacred places of Buddhism in Southern Fujian. Inside the temple there is the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Treasured Hall of Great Majesty (Da Xiong Bao Dian), the Hall of Great Mercy (Da Bei Dian), all of which are built in an exquisite and grand style.
