Nashville left behind, we headed out on what is known as the "Music Highway" towards the home of the Blues, Rock & Roll and the owner of the most famous pair of blue suede shoes.

First night in Memphis on the famous Beale Street saw us venture into numerous live music watering holes and an encounter with Dr Feelgood Potts - one of Memphis' finest hamonica players.

Memphis has a famous hotel - The Peabody.  It has some very famous residents - namely the Peabody Ducks.  Each morning they are escorted by the Grand Duckmaster from their rooftop home, down the elevator to the lobby fountain where they spend the day.  Very funny and one of them was even called Gary - see photo.

We then visited the cradle of rock & roll - Sun Studio.  T-Shirts purchased, photo ops taken with the microphone used by Sun's glitterati - including Elvis, Johnny Cash, Howlin Wolf, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison to name but a few.

Onwards to Graceland - the Platinum Tour beckoned - a full-on Elvis tat fest, including kitchen, bedroom, private jets, car garage, meditation garden and a multitude of souviner shops.

Memphis is famous for its succulent Ribs, bbq'd in a charcoal pit, smothered in thick tangy spicy hot juicy sticky sauce.  Another low fat meal for us then!

Great place, great people, great music, great guesthouse.  We could have easily spent another 2 days in Memphis.  Rest of the trip has a lot to live up to.

That duck looks nothing like you and I hope your feet are'nt that shape, as shown in the pavement. Did you not secretly like all the Elvis tat that was on sale then ? Mind you, not a fan of his decor !!!
