Before leaving the Redding area we spent the morning visting a pedestrian bridge called the Sundial Bridge. It'd 210 ft pylon acts as the gnonom ( how do you like that word ) of the sundial and is the largest working sundial that is also a bridge in the world

After the bridge, we visited Shasta Lake and Shasta Dam ( the 2nd largest dam in mass in the United States). The Dam is over 500 ft thick at its base

Than we went west on highway 299 to coast.  Winding road and switchbacks through the mountains. There were no pictures taken as we moved through the mountains as I was too busy clutching the handles with the door with white knuckles

Stayed at Arcata overnight. Had supper at the Samoa Cookhouse nearby in Eureka. This is a cookhouse that was used by lumberjacks in the early 1900's. Had a great homemade  meal  consisting of  soup, salad, homemade bread, roast beef, pork, peas, baked potatos and carrot cake
