      1.5.09 – Moncofa

Continuing our drive east towards Valencia, we are in search of warmer weather and sunshine and head for Moncofa which is on the beach about 40 kms north of Valencia. It is a long drive for us – about 5 hours. The drive could possibly have been shorter but there was another wrong turn. Now, I am not one to lay blame, and I did mention that “things just didnt make sense to me”, several times. But the driver has the casting vote at all times, so off we went down the wrong road, some 65 kms! “Oh well, just one of those things” was mumbled by someone we wont mention while we decided what to do. But we decided to continue on the same course, even if a little longer and made it to Moncofa in daylight so no problems.

On the way, we stop for morning tea and take a shot of some interesting rock formations on the side of the roadway.

Unfortunately, Moncofa was not all that it was hoped for – while it was very close to the beach with a very friendly campsite manager (who spoke no English and gesticulated to us as if we or he was mute!), it felt like we were in the middle of an industrial site for some reason. Could have been that there was no grass in the campsite, only granite stones and it was situated at the end of what seemed a disused estate. Anyway, although we had planed to stay there two nights, it was one night for us. We went for a walk along the pebble beach in the afternoon (which was quite nice) and then back to the van for baked chicken dinner (ie purchased cooked chook) – yum!
