Leaving Dublin
From Emerald Isle, Here We Come! in Galway, Ireland on May 02 '09
So today was like no other. We got up to another great breakfast at the B&B before having to go get the car. I started getting really nervous about driving about the time we found the rental agency, which incidentally happened to be five minutes down the road from the B&B. We ended up with a new Hyundai Accent. Let's just say after the first five minutes of having the car, we seriously reconsidered the whole driving aspect. So much in fact, that we almost returned the car. However, after an hour of trying to figure out if we could do it, we were on our way to Galway. Getting out of Dublin was scary, but once we were out and on the highway, it turned out not to be so bad. It is really a strange sensation driving on the right side of the car, and it's even more strange to be driving on the left side of the road. Randy had to "help" me a little with my positioning on the road, since my distance was a little off.
We decided to stop at an ancient monastic ruins called Clonmacnoise. These ruins were hundreds and hundreds of years old. Not to mention the cemetary there, which they are still adding to (we saw a funeral while we were there).
...we almost returned the car"
We made it into Galway around dinner time and walked around the city. It was alright. We went into a few shops and drove around some of Galway Bay. The weather wasn't too nice, so we decided to head back to the new B&B. Tomorrow we are planning on driving the Connemara region, which is supposed to be beautiful.
