My first days
From Study abroad: Nagoya, Japan in Nagoya, Japan on Mar 26 '09
Right...big city.... Realtravel is irritating in that it tries to do everything for me, but whatever I will put up with it.
Nagoya has a population of about five million, though it usually doesn't seem that way. The streets can be pretty packed during the day, and most of the larger stretches are three to five lanes wide on both sides. Public transportation is quite good, though it is best to use a bicycle to go places. Drivers are horrible to each other...riding in one of those tiny-ass cars is horrifying experience. But somehow they manage to be very pedestrian friendly, so it is safest to travel on foot.
I chose to depart from the United States on the 25th of March. My ticket was about Wednesday was just outside of the weekend rush, and it isn't too expensive to find a hotel outside of an airport. When I arrived in Nagoya on the 26th, the hotel I reserved cost me $60 equivalent. It was pretty nice. They provided a queen bed, vanity, bedtime kimono, slippers, and a basket of heygiene products.
Unfortunately I have been unable to upload pictures en masse outside of facebook. Flickr does not allow for more than 100 mb of photos each month...which means about 60 photos for me. All of the advertising on Photobucked crashes my internet connection when I try to upload, so that won't work. I will provide a picture link as soon as I can find a better service.
