Fun in the sun but no time to lay down!
From One more week in the sun in Waikiki before donning on Long pants in Honolulu, United States on Mar 27 '09
We made it here after 10 hrs flying, with very little sleep, lots of kids on the plane. We found out it is Spring week here so that explains all the kiddies.
We checked into our amazing Embassy Suite on the 16th floor.....birds eye view of Lewers St. below. It has a great hot cooked included breakfast, so we have a super start to the day on a full belly. (getting bigger too).
Weren't we suppose to be relaxing in Waikiki???
We have hooked up with another couple from Ladysmith so we are seeing lots on foot so far. Sat. we headed off on the city bus out to the Aloha Stadium for the Outdoor Markets. It is held in the parking lot and extends around the whole Stadium....need I say more. I came away sporting a very smart colorful capri set...you'll see me coming. Very comfy, I must add. Just happened to have matching flip flops from Australia. This shopping is too hard on the wallet.
Last night we were treated to dinner at the Top of Waikiki Restaurant by our friends. It gives you a 360 view of the whole city and area....a real twinkling site. Photos don't do it justice. Dinner was delicious with Creme Brulee for dessert with 4 spoons......we were satisfyinly stuffed. "Full as a tick".
Today, we had a quieter day, walked along the beach to the Hilton Hawaiian Village....another dangerous shopping experience! What a place....Fairy penguins, turtles, Koi fish in the many sculptured pools plus all the many shopping stores in their own village. Very dangerous place, Karin....
We carried on walking to the Ilakai to their 30th floor to view the city northwards. Vi and I came down on the Glass Outside Elevator while Grant & Sandy took the slow 2 elevators to get them down. Lunch by the marina and a walk back. Enough walking for today....domestic duties were calling. We now have our laundry done and that is it until we get home...
We are off to the Polynesian Cultural Center tomorrow morning which is a 12 hr day. I am the only one that has not been there so I will have to hustle around to see most of the villages there. Should be a great day.
Tues. Grant and I are off to submerge 100 ft on the Atlantis Submarine Tour to sunken ships, remnants of hurricane swept airliners, pyramid structures as well as thousands of fish on the Atlantis Reef.
I still have to take the city bus to Diamond Head and hike to the top. Everyone else has done it so I have to fit that in one morning.
So much to do and see.....whew, sightseeing is tiring but exciting. Soon it will be reality back in Nanaimo and back to the Nanaimo pool. Exercise will be my new priority.
Good night all....Carole
