Ko Tao

When we flew from Saigon to Bangkok, we stayed one night here before heading on the train towards Ko Tao. Unfortunately the train had no air con tickets left, so we had to endure the full 9 hour ride in baking heat. A quick overnight stop in Chumporn  and a short ferry ride later, we arrived in Ko Tao.

The first night we grabbed one of the famed beach bungalow huts, romantic in theory but in reality it was a different story altogether; the interior was like ‘topsy turvy ‘land with holes in the walls for windows. The place was swarming with mosquitoes, so we decided to check out the next morning in search of something a bit more upmarket!!  Luckily enough we found a hotel on the beach for roughly the same price including breakfast. We liked it so much we decided to stay here for 2 weeks.

Most of our days were spent on the beach, where we became “tanoholics”. Other days we did some scuba diving which Ko Tao is famous for. The food is quite good in Ko Tao, with alot of choice, both Thai and European and lots of bars to choose from too.

The time absolutely flew by here, and we both read about 4 or 5 books, so very relaxing, and just what we needed before facing the journey home!!

Ko Tao is known as a quieter island, but it is obvious that it is changing, with alot of prostitutes and lady boys hanging around both day and night. We were also surprised by the amount of Russian tourists here.  All in all, a nice place to visit, with good beaches, tropical water and everything you need to relax in the sun!
