So at 10 pm we set off on our 10 hour bus ride to Santiago and it wasn't long before we nodded off . By 8 am we arrived and decided to take the subway since we had heard that it was a fab system , we were not let down and it seemed that a tube arrived every 30 seconds. They were clean , fast and spacious not to mention costing only 50p to ride the entire network ! The hostel was quite central and so far, offered the loveliest ambience we have so far experienced !

Santiago was hot and full of smog so that you could barely see the andies in the distance . The city is a typical high rise expance and there really weren't too many points of beauty or character ! It's divided into districts but not as distinct as buenos aires . Our favourite area was barrio bellavista with it's colourful bars and eateries with a bohemian feel , beyond there was cerro San cristobal upon which a figure of the virgin Mary looked down over the city. We took the Funicular up to the summit back as the return cable car ride was 2000 metre long , we took the 5Km walk back down instead, phew !

We enjoyed checking out Santiago and also chilled in our comfortable hostel watching DVD's for a few days .
