Day Two
From Aloha Honolulu - First time to Oahu in Honolulu, United States on Mar 01 '09
Saturday – Day 1
Mr. and Mrs. B couldn’t believe that the trip wasn’t planned better so they lovingly decided to change their departure and extend their stay one more day. So instead of us taking them to the airport the morning after we arrived, we got to spend the whole first day with “locals” as we drove around the entire island getting our own personal private tour guide. It was perfect. We even found the elementary school that my mother went to in Wailua. I felt hugged by both sets of parents!!
We stopped at not our first choice for early dinner / late lunch on the way back around the island and then tried unsuccessfully for matsu moto shaved ice and Dole pineapple ice-cream – both too long of a line or closed… We’ll get back this week cause that ice-cream with fresh pineapple chunks – oh my goodness!!
We had been hearing about Lychee Vodka from Mr. B since before we even left for Hawaii. If any of you read my blog a few years ago when I was in Mauritius and Madagascar you might remember that I lived on Lychee. To combine my favorite tropical fruit with my drink of choice – you’ve got yourself a Jen Party!! We got back to the house, tired and jet lagged where I promptly poured Lychee Vodka and Cranberry all around. Delish!!
Then straight to bed.
Sunday – day 2
Woke up 4am to pouring rain and winds blowing hard. It was romantically wonderful. Stepped out on the back patio which is magnificently landscaped with a million different palms, the plushest grass I’ve ever sunk my toes into, so many birds of paradise you loose count, an orange tree, and real birds and lizards competing for attention. Ate lazy breakfast, waking up slowly then Jerome and I jumped in the car and made it to the Swamp Meet just as it opened. The swamp meet is like any other large open-air market with 100s of vendors selling their wares. It was the first time I felt like I was in another country as so many Asian cities have similar markets where you can get 5 T shirts for 10 dollars, batteries and vacuum cleaner bags next to the jewelry cases and knock off Louis vatton luggage.
We had a great time and even walked away with (yes I’m going to say it) identical matching red Hawaii sweatshirts. He loves me enough to wear in public our matching sweatshirts as we brought no warm clothes and it’s pretty chilly in the first part of the day until it warms up around 2pm. I’ve got pictures to prove it!
We drooped off the Parentals after having rice cakes and mochi made by Jerome’s Aunt and Uncle who came over for breakfast and then went toAlamoana mall for food court lunch (I know I can’t believe I did that either…) and I’m not sure I need to go back – but it was fun and lively and made for excellent people watching. If you’ve ever seen a movie shot in Japan where the girls are wearing short little looks like catholic school uniforms with cell phones in hand giggling with their girlfriends – this was that movie. We left the mall and went straight to the beach with our new $18 a piece beach chairs. Just another reason to have to come back – So I can get my $18 worth of sitting on the beaches of Hawaii!! We out ran a mini thunderstorm and headed back to the house a few hours later.
Jerome is playing golf tomorrow at what is listed as the “hardest golf course in the world” so we went to the driving range today (I brought my laptop so I could do this) and he’s over thinking, over analyzing and making himself a little nutty as he swings and tries to dissect each hit ball. But he’s in golf heaven and tomorrow should be a really nice way to spend the afternoon. I’m excited to see the course and take a zillion pictures of the foliage and fauna. As well as caddy, drive the cart and coach Jerome. ☺ I’m sure my father wishes it were him driving the cart and playing with Jerome!!
Then it’s off for a night of dancing and hopefully some Japanese karaoke. Tonight however, I think we are getting some Sweet Potato Manapua and I’m sure some meat product for Jerome. We are staying close to the house tonight going to a place called Che Margaret’s. Is that French? I’ll let you know tomorrow.
