Life on Topsail

After visiting Wrightsville Beach, NC the previous year,  we decided that we needed to experience the benefits of the Atlantic ocean breezes on one of our vacations.

We flew from Chicago Midway to Raleigh-Durham, NC.  Upon arrival and retrieval of our rental car,  we made our first stop at our favorite restaurant Waffle House.  If my wife and I can get at least one meal at a Waffle House on one of our trips,  our trip is considered complete.

Upon completion of our breakfast we headed for TopSail Beach,  about a two hour drive from Raleigh, N.C.     With one short stop at a local winery on the way,  we made our trip in one piece.

Immediately we were pleased to find the beach rental in great shape.  Very spacious, and strategically located only a short distance to the ocean.   When you sat on the top deck of the upstairs,  a beautiful picturesque view was abundant.

We were truly spoiled,  as our daughter and her husband took care of making the arrangements for the rental.  All we had to do was show up,  and enjoy ourselves.

It was a rare occasion that our whole family was able to be together.  Not only our daughter and son in  law,  but our son and daughter in law from CA were able to enjoy part of the trip as well.

The relaxing sound of the ocean waves hitting the beach,   along with the sights of the hermit crabs scampering away at night,  from the hint of the flashlight,   will always be something remembered from this trip.

Trips to town for a morning coffee,  and a morning paper were becoming quite regular.  Along with naps in the afternoon,  it was quickly becoming a vacation to remember. But like all vacations,  they go all too quickly.   Our trip of 7 days went faster than we had hoped that it would.

We were fortunate enough to have a day trip to Camp Lejuene, NC  to visit some of our son in law's friends and co workers.

It was a sad morning when we had to pack the car and return to the Raleigh Airport.  But we were warmed with the wonderful thoughts of a great week at TopSail Beach.
