As expected the drive from Green River, UT into Silverthorne, CO. took only 3 hrs. A beautiful sunny day greeted us and remained with us throughout the trip. The topography started to change as more and more of the mountains began to appear. Along interstate 70, leaving Utah, approaching Colorado, beautiful large bluffs, buttes, began appearing, looking man made or rather woman made(mother nature). I missed the photo of the Welcome to Colorado sign, :( But was able to get a close second. Again sandy ranges lined the roadway as we traveled through Grand Junction, which gradually became more rocky cliffs as we approached the Rockies. I could hear John Denver singing in my head.....You know the song.... Then what to our wondering eyes but the brother of the Old Man in the Mountain. Guess they wanted to get out of New England too?

We stopped in Vail, NO not to ski (yet), but to fuel up. Oh my gosh, they are undergoing some major construction and building rehab. Check out the photo with all the cranes. We counted 7 going at one time. My stepson, Cort told us that over the summer there were more like 15-20 going at one time. Guess we know what lift tickets will be like, huh?
Passing through Vail pass, it became winter suddenly. We encountered snow showers and it was apparent that they had already had a taste of old man winter. (UGH, too early for me). As we entered Summit county, (home of many ski areas), the urge to ski increased, but this was no time to ski, we had family to see. (Hey I made a rhyme). Besides, we have all winter (which may last until May, I hear....). We arrived in Silverthorne to partly sunny skies, checked into our hotel and then met up with our family. My niece Maggie and Rich's son Cort live in Silverthorne/Dillon area.(no, not together, just coincidence). We found Cort working diligently on a house project for some friends. We all had lunch and then later that evening dinner getting caught up. We wound up staying for another day then expected, as Rich joined Cort in his door hanging/painting project. Maggie and I had a wonderful dinner together that evening, in Breckenridge. Yummy venison.... It was weird being in Breckenridge when it was "quiet". The last time we were there,(Jan) it was buzzing with activity, which is shortly to happen once again. Tomorrow it's onto Alamosa, our home for the next 6 months.
