We left Santa Rosa de Copan and made the five hour bus journey to the famous Copan Ruins. The town itself is very pretty with cobblestone streets, red tiled roofs and a colonial church but had the feeling of being built for tourists. However, the return to gringo land was much appreciated as we managed to escape fried food in favour of some hostel cooked veggie soup.

The next day we walked the 1km to the Copan Ruins known as "the Paris of the Mayan world". The ruins pre date AD 300 and the remains of 3450 structures have been found. The ruins were breathtaking and we spent two hours wondering through them before heading back to Copan.

As everything else in Copan was vastly overpriced (our usual rum had more than doubled in price) we decided to head to the Guatemalan border and the laid back Caribbean town of Livingston.
