Monday 29th October – Cancun – Dallas – Seattle
After the rough sleep at the airport last night, we got up and found that we weren't even at the start of the queue for check-in! Anyway we got on the 6.30am flight which went pretty quickly and arrived into Dallas a couple of hours later. We decided to head into the city to visit the 6th Storey museum and other sights of the assination of JFK. We asked around how to catch public transport to make the journey and were told how hard it was. In fact it worked out to be the easiest and best public transport we have used in a long time. About an hour later we happened to get off the right stop very close to the museum (all planned Leigh said!) We were both starving so had subway then headed to different banks to try and convert our Mexican paseos into USD. Unfortunately every bank we visited required us to have an open account with their bank to do currency exchange – bizzare! Then there were no currency exchange bureaus in the whole of Dallas except at the airport! By now we were both getting frustrated as our emergency credit card hadn't worked at the museum. We ended up getting a credit card advance which worked thankfully and headed to the museum.

I think the girl at the counter felt sorry for us with all our credit card issues, so she gave us a good discount on the entrance fee. Anyway this museum was originally the Texas school book depository where apparently Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK. It was such an interesting museum full of JFK's life and eventually the theories around how and who shot him. There were also many films which were a bit gut wrenching as he was obviously well respected by the majority. We spent a few hours in the museum, before heading outdoors to see the X on the road, where the fatal shot occurred. We then chatted to a conspiracy theorist who was selling DVD's and had lots of opinions including the fact that he was shot by a minimum of 4 people. Leigh was asking as many questions as possible and talked to the man for over 30mins. Maybe we should have bought his DVD as he was very generous with his knowledge.

We sat on the grassy knoll and made up our own theories before wandering around some of the memorials in Dallas including a JFK memorial that was built like a tomb and shuts out the sound of the busy city by renowned architect Phillip Johnson. We grabbed some more subway then hopped on the train to take us back to the airport. We waited around for our 9.45pm flight and got into Seattle finally around 11.30pm. Leigh called a couple of hotels by the airport and we managed to get one really cheap including a free shuttle to the hotel. We were both so excited to see a very comfortable bed – our first in the last couple of days.
