The trip to Sarajevo from Mostar was unquestionably beautiful, but made so much more fun by our stop for adventure.  Sharlene, Ryan and I all decided to spend the afternoon whitewater rafting, while Patrick and few others went for a LONG hike.

The whitewater rafting was hilarious.  The three of us have become accustomed to the health and safety talks that you get before anything in North America, but here we were told "Hold on for a minute, this could be a big one" and "Keep your feet under the strap and try to stay in the boat" - we thought this was so funny.  And then they brought out the moonshine and started drinking.  Ryan participated in this 'tradition' whereas Shar and I were more hesitant - the only English word our crewman knew was 'paddle' - and we were concerned about the deterioration of English from the only one in the boat that could translate.  We may have been concerned, but he certainly wasn't - he drank and smoked our entire way down the river.  Another thing that set the three of us off was the need to stop every five or six minutes for a smoke - Bosian's really do smoke an awful lot.

Anyway, the trip down the river was lovely!  Very scenic country, and absolutely gorgeous lush mountains.  I high recommend a trip off the beaten path to anyone travelling in Bosnia...enjoy the scenery, just keep an eye out for landmines because they really do exsist and there are signs warning of their presence.

Patrick's hike was equally as lovely, but physically draining.  They walked for over four hours in the mountains, so he was very beat when they finally made it back to base.  Enjoyed it, but tired.

Following the rafting and the hiking we were served a fantastic barbequed fish and then made the last leg of the drive to Sarajevo.
