Perth and Christmas in Rockingham

Ok first we arrived in Perth for two nights staying at the lovely witches hat hostel. We walked around the city by foot, the city centre itself is rather small so within a few hours we had seen most of it. There is loads of nice green areas and park lands to walk around. The weather was great too, about 27-30 degrees each day and dry no humidity!

After getting back from our 7 day trip Perth to Exmouth and back we had a day or two to recover before xmas. So we went out to rottnest Island on the ferry to see the famous Quokka's which are small little rat like creatures who have a pouch like a kangaroo. So the island was named after a dutch explorer - rottnest which means rats nest in english. Most people rent bikes and cycle around the island, but the queue in the only rental shop on the island was so long that we opted to walk instead. Some nice beaches and ferry crossing was really good as we got to see where the super rich in Perth live. We sailed by the most expensive property in Auz, which was sold for $86 millon dollars..

Suzanne was delighted to get a parcel from her sister in the post. Well done to Jen & Dave for providing some irish food stuffs and presents!! Although we never recieved the decorative pine cone which was quarantined by the Auz Customs.. On Christmas day morning we cracked open a bottle of pink champagne and fired up the barby for a delicious breakfast. After this we headed out to Rockingham, to meet Annie and Kathy ( A married couple) who we met on our trip of the west coast. The kindly invited us out for xmas dinner, so it was lovely to have company. They had an old pianolo, that can be played by pumping the foot pedals so nick discovered he is a musical genius!!!

We walked home through the city xmas day and a lot of shops and restaurants were open including micky mac's with a queue out the door..

Christmas here is not at all the same as back home, good to see and a different experience but looking forward to next year already!!
