Today we left Hilton Head area and drove to St. Augustine, Florida. We camped Anastasia State Park. Wow what a beautiful spot. We have been told that the Florida State Parks are really wonderful and if this is a sample we agree. It was warm and wonderful! Took a drive into St. Augustine, the oldest city in America, and discovered they are having a huge art show this weekend – it was mobbed. On our last trip here we visited Castillo De San Marcos which is the oldest masonry fort in the US – built in the late 1600’s. Another landmark is Flagler College which was once the famous Ponce De Leon Hotel built in 1887.

The weatherman had predicted high winds and lots of rain today. Since it was fairly decent when we arose we decided to head South as far as we could get. We drove about 80 miles and because the sky was darkening and the wind was picking up we decided to stop for the night at Crysal Lake RV Park located along I-95 near Canaveral National Seashore. We had a relaxing evening and rode out the storm.

It was beautiful this morning and we packed up and drove south to Sebastian Inlet State Park. This park is a two time gold medal winner as best state park in the nation. It is located where the Indian River flows into the Atlantic and it is teeming with birds. Our camp site is right on the water and we can lay in bed and see the river. There are brown pelicans, stork, heron, osprey and many other species of birds. We also saw a pod of about 20 dolphins swim by. The weather is wonderful and warm. There are fishermen everywhere and the birds are diving and soaring continuously. We wandered all over the park and took photos of the many birds.

Today we woke up to strong wind and a few sprinkles but by 10 AM it was clear. We took a drive into Vero Beach and did some shopping. The park where we are staying is located on a very narrow strip of land – when you drive along this section of Highway A1A you can see water on both sides. This afternoon we did some more hiking and bird watching. This is truly a beautiful spot.
