Before leaving Vermont, we decided to swing by the state capitol in Montpelier. And we're glad we did! We got there just in time to catch a quick tour of the building, led by an adorable octagenarian (who kept apologizing not only for her weakening stamina, but also for sharing her political views about the governor). We then visited Hope Cemetary in Barre. Listed in our book of unusual places in the U.S., this cemetary is very unique. Apparently, Barre is the granite capitol of America, and so all of the headstones are eccentric, to say the least. You'll have to see the video.

We then crossed New Hampshire and most of Maine in a torrential downpour, finding shelter from the storm in Bangor, home of Stephen King.
This morning, we drove by his house and then headed out to Bar Harbor, where we spent the day in Acadia National Park. We enjoyed lunch on the dock, and Ben tried his very first lobster! (But Jessie had to wear the bib.) The park was beautiful, especially the views from the top of Cadillac Mountain. It was here that we finally saw our first real wildlife -- a small deer just off the path. The scenery was breathtaking, despite the low-hanging ominous clouds. We also got to use our National Parks pass for the first time, saving us a total of $20!

Right now, it's 66 degrees, and it was even cooler up on the mountain this afternoon. We're finally experiencing the perks of the north in the summertime.
Tomorrow, we will attempt Canada. We'll keep you posted!
Meanwhile, we can't help but notice a significant lack of commentary posted to our journal entries. Just a friendly reminder that we love to hear from you all while we're on the road! It's difficult for us to access the internet on our journey, but we try to catch up whenever we can. Remember, it doesn't cost a thing to write us...just create a user name and password, no strings attached! Thanks to those of you who have been writing. We miss all of you and wish you were all here.
