Perfecr Perhentian!
From South East Asia in Perhentian Kecil, Malaysia on Jun 08 '07
Hi!
so after a 7 hour bus journey we arrived at the pier to catch the boat over to the islands. we were on the fast boat which took about 30 minutes. as we approached the islands i could see straight away why mike had liked it so much. If any of you have seen the show 'Lost', then thats how to picture it. beautiful white beach with over hanging palm trees and not much else!! Perfect!
At this point i would like to introduce you to Vicki. She was on the bus with us from the cameron highlands and niki and i got to know her on the way. we all went together to the guest house, the first at our end of the beach. By this point myself and niki were comfortably sure each other weren't axe murderers so decided to continue to share - its a really good way to keep the costs down.
we pretty much dumped our stuff - donned our swimming gear (i looked away of course!) and hit the beach. I know i said that fiji was perfection all those months ago, and it really was. But i have to say that this place does just pip it! it is my number one idyllic location on my whole trip! i was often heard muttering 'this is amazing' over the three days we were there. The water was unbelievably clear, and you could walk for a while into the sea until it started to get deep, meaning you could flop about, sit and generally play in the shallows. The weather was perfect over the 3 days we were there and a nice sea breeze in the evening kept me under control sweat wise!It was Paradise.
The first evening we all got a bit merry - all good fun. The next day was about chilling, dipping in and out of the sea and taking our time with everything. In the evening we walked through the forest (about 10 min)to the sunset beach on the other side of the island and listened to jazz as the sun retired for the day.
The second day we booked a snorkeling trip with the guest house. Howie was our guide. it was amazing. we saw huge turtles and managed to swim along with them for some time, hundreds if fish and finally, some sharks. Pretty big ones too - perhaps 2 meters for the biggest! i had my underwater camera (thanks mum) so hopefully some good shots will come out. after some more snorkeling around the coral we went to a light house which was erected a little out at sea. we got to climb to the top and jump off. Only a few people were brave enough.. and of course i was one!
that evening we (niki, vicki and myself) enjoyed a nice meal and took sat around a bonfire chatting. it was a great and to the day.
the next day we were leaving but we managed to get some last minute sun during the morning. that night we were catching the over night bus to the other side of the country - the destination, Panang.
what a place - i recommend anyone that goes to malaysia to see these islands (stay on the small one!)
okey guys, see you in panang! xx
