Next up was Dali, an ancient gateway to both Tibet and Burma. The town itself is in two parts with the historic old town some 15km's from the new town. This helps the town preserve its heritage and also makes it very touristy with perfect cobbled streets and temples plus many, many coffee shops, cafes and tourist booking sites. There wasn't much to do except wander around and soak up the belting sun, we did have a look at the 3 pagoda's on a hill and also went for a bike ride down to a lake. Afterwards we signed up for a very painfull Chinese foot massage, it's suposed to be relaxing don't you know.

In the evening we went to a place that did Bai minority food. The Bai being the prominent minority in this area (China has many). I ordered Pork with chili which turned out to be pork fat in sauce and just about stomached enough to feel full. Mer's fish was much nicer! They also have a 'foreigner street' so we had a drink in a smoke hazed place called Bad Monkey where the locals were definately not that local and the beer was very cold! Next up LiJiang.
