Leaving our Comfort Zone
From Jimmy And Sarah Over There! or Oberder! in Surat Thani, Thailand on Feb 24 '08
Hi Everybody!
Well after 3 weeks of relaxing on the beach at Thong Nai Pan Yai on Ko Phangan Island we are finally leaving! We never expected to stay in one place for so long but we had a great place to stay and great friends to experience everything with. We are sad to say that our English friends Anthony and Verity will not be joining us for any more adventures as they will be staying on the beach for another 2 weeks and then off home to South End on Sea, England. We'll miss you "cheeky sods" and we'll see you soon we hope!
Sarah is making me report that on our second afternoon dive I had a little...teeny tiny...eency weency...Freak out moment!
Anyways, last we left off we were nursing minor wounds and about to eat Jaws! Well the wounds are much better and as for the shark....welllll....not so good. We were really excited to try this exotic man eating mammal...or is it a fish? I dunno? Anyways, yah, really excited but unfortunately it was quite a dissapointment : ( The meat may have been overdone a bit but that's not really an explanation for its flavorlessness...it was just...plain...kind of like eating cardboard! I think it needed a dash of 'patis' or fish sauce in order to even taste like seafood! LOL
We also tried our first scuba diving experience! What a blast! At first I was worried that Sarah would hate it and not enjoy it at all but once she was in the water she was a natural...we both completed the underwater tests with ease! Unfortunately Sarah is making me report that on our second afternoon dive I had a little...teeny tiny...eency weency...Freak out moment! AHHH Yes I admit it, there was one point where I had to come back up from under water because it felt like my mask was slipping off my face! Probably because I have no nose to keep it in place! haha That's enough reason to be freaking out isn't it??! Hey Amber, tell Fendi to design some scuba AF (Asian Fit) masks!! Anyways, after the instructor gave me her mask everything was good but I still couldn't seem to shake the fear, it took a little bit of time but eventually we managed to all get underwater...once under it was a fantastic experience, live coral, schools of colorful fish....Shark!! LOL just kidding...or maybe there was a bit of shark in the water from previous night's dinner after I...ahem...had my freak out moment! HAHA JK Anyways...we stayed under water for a little under an hour! Woohoo Abyss here we come!
A couple of days passed and we did our usual daily routine (most or all of the following involving Ant and Verity)...wake up around 10:00am, go to our favorite breakfast spot overlooking the beach and sea, check email and blog for any responses, take a short walk down the beach, lay out our beach mats to take in some rays, throw the frisbee around for a bit, have a couple of Singha Beers, have lunch, catch more sun, read our books, throw more frisbee, have more beers, shower up, go to our dinner spot, have a campfire on the beach, (the other night the 4 of us polished off 2 full bottles of Sangsom Rum wooo hehe) and then off to bed to get some rest so we can repeat it all the next day!
Last night was our last night on Ko Phangan and what better way to end it off by being able to attend the Full Moon Party! After an hour long-back of pick-up truck taxi ride to the neighbouring beach that hosts the crazy event we were amazed to see this spectacle! You honestly have to see it to believe it...literally 30,000+ people from all over the world hit this beach monthly with full party force...unbelievable sound systems, light shows, glow painted bodies, buckets of booze! Pure insanity! We had such a great time! At one point Sarah and I were having drinks at a table when we looked around we were surrounded by about 8 or 9 "He-Shes" or boys who are girls LOL You know what I mean...they were a sight to behold in their skimpy dresses and long hair and make up...they put some of the "real" girls to shame! But strange enough, they took a liking to Sarah...hehe maybe she made them think twice about being he-shes LOL Sooo pwetty they said haha
Today we got up, a bit hungover needless to say, and had our last breakfast with our good friends. After Anthony managed to control his tears hahaha JK we all said our goodbyes.
Well that's about it for now...we took another Taxi then Ferry then Bus to get to where we are currently sitting (train station) in Surat Thani waiting for our midnight train to Georgia...oh wait, that's a song! Midnight train to Butterworth, Malaysia...(I know wierd, butterworth?) from Butterworth we hope to catch a train all the way to Singapore where we will be checking out this rich city for 3 or 4 days, then back up to Malaysia's capital city Kuala Lumpur for a day or two. From there we'll be back tracking up the west coast side of Thailand towards Phuket, Ko Phi Phi and Ko Lanta.
We STILL love you all and Miss you!
Please write as we do check everyday or 2 and hearing from you all brings joy to our otherwise mundane and boring lives. HAHA HAHAHA HA HAAAAA No seriously.
