Christmas in Yeppoon (pop. 10,600)

Fuer die ersten Tage haben wir es uns in James', Johno's Bruder, Haus gemuetlich gemacht. Heute haben wir uns mit James und Stina zum Mittagessen im Hotel "The Strand" getroffen. Ich bekam einen Anruf, dass mein Auto abholbereit ist; zu einem Spottpreis von nur $ 1.000,50. :-( ich brauchte, um durch TUEV zu kommen neue Reifen, neue Bremsen und anderen Kleinkram. Kurz vor Feierabend habe ich es auch geschafft mein Auto zu einem Hoeker zu bringen. Ich bezahle $ 35 die Woche. Leute koennen sich mein Auto anschauen und es werden auch Probefahrten organisiert. Nun warte ich auf einen Anruf von einem potienziellen Kaeufer.

Wieder in Yeppoon kamen Johno's Eltern zu Besuch und spaeter sind wir dann zu Anne und Adrian (Johno's Schwester und Freund) zum Abendessen gefahren.

Donnerstag, 20.12.07

Heute haben wir unseren Boottrip gestartet. Johno's Eltern, Barry, einer seiner tausend Onkeln, Anne und Adrian und Matt, einer seiner 31 Cousins und wir beide.

Im Morgendgrauen gings los mit der gecharterten "KONTRO"; 11 m lang, 8 Knoten schnell mit zwei 62 PS Motoren - also nicht besonders schnell. Es gibt vier Doppelkabinen. Barry und Matt haben aber trotzdem unter freiem Himmel geschlafen.

Als ich mal am Steuer war habe ich doch tatsaechlich einige Delfine gesichtet. Wir waren fischen, schwimmen, schnorcheln, waren auf einer kleinen Insel, sind dort auf einen Huegel geklettert und ich habe sogar einen Fisch gefangen, leider nicht essbar. Wir sind am spaetem Nachmittag mit dem Schlauchboot ein Stueck rausgefahren. Barry hat eine Makrele gefangen, die wir auch am gleichen Abend gegrillt haben. Abends habe ich dann noch einen Fisch gefangen, leider wieder nicht essbar.

Widererwarten habe ich doch recht ordentlich geschlafen in der luetten Kabine.

Freitag, 21.12.07

Heute gings wieder weiter mit fischen, schwimmen und schnorcheln. Dabei habe ich einen Minihai und einen kleinen Stachelrochen (Stingray) gesehen. Wir sind auch rueber zur "Great keppel island"; dort waren wir ein wenig bummeln.

fast am Ende unseres Trips hat diesmal Adrian eine Makrele gefangen, sowie einen Barrakuda. Nachdem er ihn ausgenommen hat, haben wir gelesen, dass der nicht essbar ist. Adrians Makrele haben wir dann auch am selbem Abend bei Barry verspeist.

Montag, 24.12.07

Nach etwas hin und her haben wir am Samstag endlich den Schluessel zu unserem gemietetem Haus bekommen. Die ersten Tage haben wir uns mit DVD gucken, etwas schwimmen, etliche Besuche im Haus seines Onkelns und vielen Spaziergaengen vertrieben.

Dienstag, 25.12.07

In Australien ist Weihnachten erst am 25.. Nach dem Fruehstueck habe ich dann mein Geschenk von Johno aufgemacht und tatsaechlich es war der erwartete tragbare DVD-Player mit Bildschirm, welcher perfekt fuer unsere Reise ist. Johno hat von mir ein Hemd aus Arlie Beach bekommen und einen Schluesselanhaenger. Das Weihnachtsessen hat mittags in Adrian's Haus stattgefunden.

Es gab Prawns (Garnelen), Huehnchen, Salate und vieles anderes. Die vielen Kinder konnten ihre Geschenke auspacken und zwischen den Erwachsenen wurde Julklapp veranstaltet; die Familie ist einfach zu gross, dass jeder ein Geschenk von jedem bekommt. Ich habe von Johnos Eltern ein Australien-Badehandtuch und ein Lotterielos bekommen. Leider kein Gewinn.

Freitag, 28.12.07

Die naechsten Tage waren nicht sehr aufregend. Es kamen lauter Leute zu Besuch - Darren und Victoria, Ewen und Huffi und James und Stina; alles Kumpel von Johno. Wir haben DVDs geguckt und DVDs geguckt; es hat die meiste Zeit nur geregnet. Johno kraenkelte dann auch noch rum.

Samstag, 29.12.07

Heute sind wir nur kurz nach Taunton gefahren, um unsere restlichen Sachen einzupacken und ich habe mich von Darren und den anwesenden Kollegen im Roadhouse verabschiedet.

Montag, 31.12.07

Sylvester: Johno ist in aller Frueh mit zwei Kumpels mit Jetskis zur "Great Keppel Island" gefahren. Hat etwa 30 Minuten gedauert. Fuer abends haben wir ein Tisch in "The Strand Hotel" reserviert. Wir das waren: James und Stina, Anne und Adrian, James und Megan (Johnos Bruder und Frau), Ewen und Greg und wir beide. Ein leckeres Essen, ein paar Drinks und es wurde 2008. Ganz easy.

Wednesday, December 19th

For the first days we stayed in Johno's brother's house. Today we met James ans Stina for lunch in "The Strand". I got a call, that my car is finished. Just for $ 1,000.50. :-(. I needed new tyres and new brakes and some other things. Just before they shut I brought the car to a car yard. I just pay $ 35 a week. Now I am waiting for a call from someone who is interested.

Back in Yeppoon Johno's parents came and then we went to Anne and Adrian (Johno's sister and boyfriend) for tea. Thursday, December 20th

Today we started our boat trip. Johno's parents, Barry, one of his uncle, Anne and Adrian and Matt, a cousin of him and the two of us.

In the morning we went with the "KONTRO" which we chartered. It is 11 meter long and 8 knots fast. It has two 62 HP engines - so not that fast. There are two double cabins. Although Barry and Matt slept outside under the sky.

When I was at the wheel I've seen dolphins. We went fishing, swimming, snorkeling, we were on e tiny island, we climbed there on a hill and I even caught a fish. Unfortunately it wasn't eatable. Late afternoon we went out with the dinghy. Barry caught a mackerel. We ate it on the same days. At the evening I caught another fish - not eatable again. I slept alright surprisingly in the tiny cabin. Friday, December 21st

We went fishing again and swimming and snorkeling. There I saw a mini shark and a stingray. We also went to the "Great Keppel Island". We just done a bit of window shopping. Almost at the end of our trip Adrian caught another mackerel and a barracuda. After he prepared the barracuda we found out that it is poisonous. We ate Adrian's mackerel at the same evening at Barry's house. Monday, December 24th

It took us a while until we got the key to our rented house. The first days we spent time with watching DVDs, swimming and heaps of visits in his uncle's houses and also with a bit of walking. Tuesday, December 25th

After the breakfast I unpacked my christmas present from Johno. It was the portable DVD-player what I expected - perfect for our trip. I bought Johno a shirt from Arlie Beach  and a key holder. The Christmas lunch was in Adrian's house. e had prawns, chicken, salads and heaps of other stuff. The kids unpacked their presents and the adult arranged Secret Santa. The family it just to big. I got an australian towel and a lottery ticket from his parents. Unfortunately I didn't win. Friday, December 28th

The next days wasn't very exciting. Several people came to our place - Darren nd Victoria, Ewen and Huffi, James and Stina; all Johno's mates. We watched DVDs and watched DVDs. It was raining most of the time and Johno became a bit sick. Saturday, December 29th

Today we went to Taunton just for a short time to organize our stuff. I said good bye to Darren and other colleagues. Monday, December 31st

New Years Eve: Johno went in the early early morning with two mates with the jet skies to the "Great Keppel Island". It took them around 30 minutes. For the evening we booked a table at "The Strand". James and Stina, Anne and Adrian, James and Megan (Johno's brother and wife), Ewen and Greg and the two of us. We had a nice meal, some drinks and soon it was 2008. Totally easy.
