Sleeplessly sober I got into St Elena to get a Tuc Tuc to the hostel, avoiding the mass of unshaven hobo looking guys who ascend upon you the moment you step off the bus into the tropical climate of northern Guatemala.

Signed myself up for a sunrise tour of Tikal at 3am...another of the many far too early wake ups. Took a rickety old minibus to the the national park, to then be greeted by an overexcited US/Guatemalan guy shouting and pushing us into a pick up truck to make the beginning of the sunrise...still slightly asleep. However hanging on by your finger nails for 20 mins in the back of a pickup soon woke me up. Then had to trek up the steep steps of the 4th Temple seeing the towering structures in the background superseding the forest canopy in just Havianas.

We then got to sit at the top of the Temple watching the pink and blue sky illuminate the silhouettes of the temple city. The soundtrack featured the grace of growler monkeys and several concerto by the many birds as the jungle awoke infront of us!

Walking up at these amazing temples was like no other, incredibly impressive and different from Macchu Pichu. The Latin American Continent is just filled with these wonders...making it hard work for good old Stone Henge!!

due to the remoteness of the area I was unable to leave Flores the same day but only at 5am the next day to make my adventurous trek to Mexico City for my last few days in Central America.
