Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, and Aillwee Cave
From Galway Trip!!!!! in Cliffs of Moher, Ireland on Feb 21 '08
We started our trip at 7:30 am. We drove about three hours, stopping at a little rest area for snacks and bathroom breaks, drove through Limerick, and then made it to the coast. I have to say, the Cliffs of Moher may be one of the most spectacular things I have ever scene. The photos will hopefully shows this. The weather was beautiful, but the wind was so strong we were getting blown everywhere and the spray from the ocean was hitting us. We got many beautiful pictures, perhaps too many, and then we left to go to the Aillwee Cave. The drive to the cave took us through The Burren, which is a sparsely populated area filled with rocky landscapes and amazing beaches. Unfortunately, the best pictures I could get were from the bus. We made it to the Aillwee Cave about an hour and a half later. The caves were naturally made, and extinct European bears used them for hibernation. The forms inside the cave were stunning. There were waterfalls, stalagmites, stalactites, rocks that looked like praying hands, and so on. Our tour guide even shut all the lights out for us so we could be in pitch black for a little bit. I nearly fell asleep it was so black. After our tour we headed north to Galway to pick up some groceries. We didn't get a very good view of the city, but that will come later. It took us nearly an hour to get to Galway and then another hour and a half to get to our cabins which were in the middle of nowhere. We settled in cooked, and then that night our group leaders had a party in their cabin. We showed a lot of the students what it meant to party!
