Got a nice big hotel breakfast and hit the road. It was fairly flat for most of the day and intermittent clouds kept off the sun. Somewhere in the afternoon I spaced out and missed a turn and, rather than go back, went through Rockwood and up hwy 3 to Chester. It was not very hilly and afforded me some preliminary glances at the wondrous Mississippi River. Makes a person want to hop off their bike, stick a piece of straw in their mouth and pull out some dog-eared Twain and read away the afternoon with their shoes off. It has been a very good day and I hope the memory of an easy day will carry me through the Missouri Ozarks which I hear can be utter misery. Actually the town of Chester is the home of the creator of a different well-loved character: Popeye!
