From the Cotswolds we headed to Macclesfield which is in Cheshire, we stayed with Wendy a friend of Helen's who kindly accommodated us for a couple of nights. From here we visited the city of Manchester and the house where Kevin's dad grew up. Wendy took us on many trips the area, including Rainow which had its annual scarecrow competition, where the residents display them in their front yards, and the public get to vote on the best.
The next part of our journey took us to the beautiful Lake District, passing Lake Windermere we spent our first night in Ambleside, the following day we travelled to Keswick, each night staying in B&B accommodation. From Keswick we drove through the Hard Knott Pass which was just breath taking very much Lord of the Rings scenery, on our way to Wasdale. We stopped for an afternoon at Muncaster Castle, which is a living castle and still has 3 generations of family living in it, with part of it being open to the public. That night we stayed at the Wasdale Inn which is located at the foot hills of the Cumbrian Mountains and is a popular base for hikers.
