Arrived about 3.30 and felt really stiff from the camel ride. We were taken to a really cheap youth hostel, costing 200Rs per night. The price was good, shame about the room. The sheets smelt and seemed dirty, so glad i brought my blue sheet. There were lots of mozzies about, so we had to put up our net and there was an ants nest in the bathroom. The food is not so good, so we have decided to eat somewhere else tomorrow, we can have a look about and see where looks nice. We went to an internet cafe and met an american guy who told us about Jaipur and what there is to see, which was good and he showed us some lovely pics. He had a nice camera though, i don't think they would look so good on our cheap Fiji finepix! We have decided to leave out Udaipur, because we only have 6 days left and so much left to see, although I think the lake palace would have been lovely.

We went to the Fort, Mehrangarh, one of the most famous forts in India, because of its size, amazing history and breathtaking views. To get there our taxi had to go along lots of narrow windy roads, and when we got there I was so surprised to see how amazing the views were, it was nothing I could have expected from what I read in the guidebooks. We then went to see a palace and the king's residence and Jaswan Than, a memorial to previous rulers.

The Blue City and the most amazing fort ever!

Tomorrow we are heading to Pushkar.

hi ymaws When we got to Delhi we arranged a 2 week tour of Rajasthan, there are lots of reputable companies you can arrange this with, we ended up with a driver whose english wasn't so good- but you are taking a risk with it really because he was ok, just a little grumpy and not as good as the other drivers from other travellers we met. It was quite a common thing to do, but at a price and costed us 150 pounds each which is expensive, but there are good things like the driver will drop you off wherever you want to go and meet you at what time you want. The other good thing is missing out on taking the buses and trains which can be quite tough esp around Rajasthan which is very poor. It depends what you are looking for. Beware though, India is a big country and Delhi to Bikaner is a 10 hour drive- the roads are horrendous in places, the only proper motorway we saw was between Agra and Delhi!

Informative blog. Did you hire a taxi all the way from Delhi or did you hire them at the towns you stopped in? I'm looking to travel from Jaisalmer to Bikaner and on to Delhi - any suggestions? Thanks
