San Francisco and Big Sur

Though the beauty of Salt Point was strong, the cold and wind were stronger. So we packed up camp quickly that morning and decided to get coffee and food down the road a bit. Since Addison really wanted to go to the beach and have a picnic, despite the cold; we drove down from our campsite to the coves where divers come from all over to find the abalone. Unfortunately, the tide was in; so we missed seeing the marine life that is visible there at low tide.
Jenner was the next little town south of Salt Point on Highway 1, where we stopped at the only little coffee place in town, a tiny little spot next to the real estate office. The coffee was good, and the cranberry-orange scones even better. Fueled and warmed, we turned onto State Road 116 to join up with 101 again toward San Francisco. The children were all very excited to see the Golden Gate Bridge - the sound of it so magical to their ears…

State Road 116 was quite pleasant, a small two-lane road but with plenty of scenery and small California towns to pass the time…Sebastopol had a huge roadside produce stand/natural grocery store, where we picked up all fresh California produce for our evening meal and fresh apricots to eat for a snack. I have never had an apricot that tasted like an apricot - other than dried apricots - and the children hadn’t either. So we quickly devoured the couple of pounds that we bought there...
