Drove into Darwin just before lunch on wednesday. It is a large city and we saw many advertisements for crocodile farms and wildlife parks. We drove right downtown to a tourist info centre, to find out if there were any safe places to swim.

We were told that you would be crazy to swim in the ocean here as there are many "salties" around.

Found a campground in Lichtfield National park by Florence Falls, so after wandering around town for a while and stocking up on food we headed of to the falls.

They were much further than we had anticipated but we still got there before dark, set up camp and headed for the plunge pool.

The water was great, but we did feel some nibbles on our toes. After we told Janelle not to be silly we really did see some good size fish that loved to nibble at  toes!! But it was hot andthe water was tempting so we stayed in the shallow part and found that even the little fish bite!

The campground only had cold showers but they were almost hot, seeing the water tank is high up.

The water was nice and cool.

We had to relocate some ant nests.

We decided to stay for 2 nights! What luxury not to have to pack up in the morning. It was really hot. Eventhough we did not have a thermometer I am sure the temp was close to 40C and the humidity around 90 %. I did handwashing and the wash did not dry overnight. The ranger told us that the dew here is equivalent to 4 cm of rain!!
