It was a BITTER cold day! The snow from the day before was still causing some traffic problems. School opened late -- subequently, we didn't even send KK to school because we were only going to pull her out early anyway. So we layered up our clothes and headed out.
The First Stop: Get Grandma -- she had originally planned to drive to us first, but the weather was so bad & now that KK was not going to school it made more sense for us to go get her.
PHANTOMIZED!!!!

Next Up: AMERICAN GIRL place. We have now been several times and the one thing I can tell you that makes this place the easiest is to get a personal shopper -- we love Robyn. She really does facilitate things nicely. Including if you know exactly what you want you can let her know in advance and she will put it aside for you so that you have no fears of being dissappointed when you get there.
Our trip to AG this time was short. We did not choose to do the show or the restaurant. We did however, put K's favorite doll in the doll Hospital -- she needed a bit of spucing up. KK got the new doll -- not that she needed another doll but rather that this one hit home with her because the story line behind the doll is all about horses. After a fun but short visit we headed out.

Transportation: KK's favorite thing to do is take the bike cabs in Manhattan. In my mind they might as well play in traffic on 5th Avenue. Against every ounce of better judgement that I have as a parent -- I packed the two girls and Grandma into a bike cab (at 5:10 pm -- yes the heart of rush hour) and sent them to the restaurant. Why? There was no way we were getting a real cab (and not that they are any safer) and the condition on the sidewalk after the snow were truly treacherous. Scott and I walked the few blocks to the Restaurant and we did quite a bit of ice skating! Grandma, wasn't gonna make it on foot. KK was delighted to have the opportunity to escort Grandma in the bike cab (note the BIG grin on her face in the picture). Scott and I almost beat them to the Restaurant -- so the timing was just right.

Restaurant: Carmines. We love carmines. I guess every time we go there it is some special thing going on -- so for us the place has an air of excitment and fun before we start. The food is family style Italian -- you can order 2-3 family platters and easily feed 5-6. It makes eating with the family a bit more affordable -- and you sacrifice nothing in taste, quality or presentation. We really love Carmines and it was a KK request for the night.
Theatre: PHANTOM. So why did we pick Phantom with kids? It started with one of KK's friends, she had seen the play and had the DVD and was just in love with it -- she was walking all about singing the words and really just infecting every one with her enthusiasm for the show -- KK got the bug. Despite, being a bit leary of the dark side of the play we were grateful to be seeing something that was not a kid show.

We had awesome seats. Third Row -- we were looking the actors right in the eye -- I think that helped keep "R" so attentive. We were seated on the Right side of the stage and missed some of the staging -- but not too much. They keep the air conditioner so high for the actors that it was quite chilly in our seats. Thanks to Grandma who purchased the seats for KK.
The show was great and I tell everyone that we were PHANTOMIZED. Because, now we have the T-shrts the DVD and the CD. Very frequently you will find the movie playing or the CD on in the car. Both girls know every word to every song and when I asked them what play they would like to see again (out of the ones they have seen Beauty and the Beast, Phantom or Tarzan) -- Phantom wins hands down.

It was a wonderful day! And we all very much want to go back to see Phantom soon.
