Our final leg of our US tour was San Francisco. We were lucky enough to stay with our friends Francisco and Donaji who we met during our travels in Brazil. They had a lovely apartment and were kind enough to put us up for the whole time (thanks guys!) They also let me put rubbish down the ‘trash chute’ which was very exciting! Wish we had those!

Francisco and Donaji warned us about getting the bus into town, saying we would meet some ‘characters’ but the first journey was fine, we wondered what they were talking about. However, on our second bus journey we first of all had a little old lady who said ‘you have a great day now’ to us out of the blue, which was nice, but then we met the ‘Spitty guy’ who mumbled to himself the whole way while frequently hacking up and spitting out the window…lovely! I was sitting really near him and kept squashing into Manoj to escape any unfortunate change in wind direction! On our third journey we met the ‘Laughing lady’ who again, talked to herself the whole way and often laughed hysterically out loud. San Francisco definitely had the most unusual characters out of all the places we’ve been! There are more but I won’t bore you!

There was a lovely feel to San Francisco though, friendly and laid back which is rare in a big city. Our friends Francisco and Donaji took us on rollercoaster rides down the steep hills (in their car). The hills are crazy! They drove us down Lombard street – the crooked one, that was fun! They also took us to an 80s music night which was great. We did the tour bus and visited Alcatraz, Fisherman’s Wharf (more sea lions!) and the Golden Gate Bridge. Luckily we had some great weather so we had a great time.

I just have to say this - one thing I have loved about America is the fact that you get toilet seat covers in almost every single public loo! Even in the ones in the middle of national parks or in skanky McDonalds in the cities! It’s much more hygienic! Although I don’t like the one inch gap they have either side of the toilet door, people can totally see you while you pee! You may as well not even have a door! Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed the USA, and so did our stomachs! The weighing scales weren’t so pleased however! Hopefully India will rectify that!
