I was really looking forward to going to Dahab and relaxing on the beach when I got to Egypt and I wasnt dissapointed when I got there!! Dahab is just a little, ultramodern town which is still very much under construction - including all the roads around it which are still dirt tracks (apparently because of a council bylaw trying to preserve the local surrounds). Therefore we had to do a bit of 4wd'ng to get to our hotel, Happy Life Village (cheesy name but awesome hotel), which was about 1/2 an hr round the coast from Dahab and nestled right between the sea and the mountain range behind.

We got 3 days to enjoy Dahab and in that time I got in some desert 4wding, desert quadbiking, scuba diving and just relaxing on the beach.
Dahab is world renowned for its crystal blue waters and excellent diving. So going scuba diving for the first time there was pretty awesome. For winter, the water was very mild too! The air temperature was also very warm - certainly as warm as NZ ever gets in summer, so that made for an enjoyable afternoon lying in the sun.
On the 2nd day I went on a 4wd safari, through the desert to two large canyons which we walked through. In true egyptian style, two of our four toyota landcruisers broke down on the way - and consequently the German tourists who had to sit on the roof for some of the way were not impressed!!

My final day was spent relaxing at the hotel and going for a 2hr quadbike ride into the hills behind our hotel. This was awesome - pulling raqi's in the sand was great fun!
