The flight was a long 8-hours but unlike the earlier JAL flights I took which were always packed, the NWA flight was only 80% full and the seat next to me was empty.  Like the last time I flew into Narita, the sky was overcast gray but the sakura trees lining the main road were in full bloom (actually past full bloom) providing some color.

I discovered that my backpack is damn heavy (25 lbs?) with all the gear so I am dreading tomorrow with the 1-hour hike from Nagiso Station to my minshuku in Tsumago.  Even worse will be the 3-hour hike on Wednesday on the Nakasendo from Tsumago to neighboring Magome.
