We headed out today to the Chatuchak Weekend Market. This only happens on the weekend.. Amazing, huh? There are some stalls open all week, and some Fri-Sun, but all are open Saturday and Sunday. The market is at the end of the SkyTrain line and the Metro stops there as well. This is the biggest market I have ever seen. It covers 35 acres and has over 15,000 shops and stalls. We had purchased a Nancy Chandler map of Bangkok (a must have) and it does contain a market diagram. I wanted to get some things to take home and Jeff was along for the ride. The shear number of people and stalls is overwhelming when you get there.

After walking for a while, we needed some refreshments. We each bought a whole coconut to drink. These are yummy! They cut the top off and stick a straw in it and away you go. We finished those and I got down to shopping. I found a stall with everything that I was looking for. I got a 6 person chopstick set; complete with bowls and chopstick holders, candles shaped like flowers, and some very cute wooden frogs. I apologize in advance to the parents who own the children these frogs are intended for. They have a wooden stick in their mouths and you take it out and rub it over the wood on their backs and they sound like a frog croaking. The street vendors walk around everywhere making noise with them and I just had to get a couple.

Next we got some strawberry smoothies and out of curiosity headed to the pet section. Here you can buy all sorts of animals (and stuff to take care of them with). They even have pet turkeys for sale! The rabbits are dressed in clothes and have bows and ribbons in their fur. I thought about getting some clothing for Walter and Winston, but then I figured that they would hate it (especially Winston), so I restrained myself. Happily for the cat, we were unable to find any cat clothing. :)

After hours wandered through the market, we decided that we had enough and headed back to our hotel for a dose of air conditioning. After a quick shower we hit the pool for a little bit and then napped. It was going to be a late night tonight. We headed for the tailor in the evening for the first fitting of my blouses. It looked and felt great. All of our clothes would be ready tomorrow for final pick up, except my blouses.

Next we headed to what (after visiting) has become one of my all time favorite dinning experiences, The Bed Supperclub. As one might imagine from the name, it involves beds! The building is a funky oval shaped building with no signage out front. If you venture here walking from elsewhere (like we did) make sure that you know what the place looks like or you will walk right by it! Our reservations were for 7:30pm and we were about 20 minutes early. We figured we could have drinks at the bar before hand, but discovered that the place doesn't open until 7:30. We browsed the nearby 7-11 (for the air conditioning) for a while before heading back. The inside of the oval is a two story open design. Long beds (covered with a long white sheet) line the walls on the upstairs and downstairs. Each groups gets a section of the bed and a small table. We kicked off our shoes and climbed in and relaxed against the pillows while examining the menu. The menu rotates constantly and it is one price for appetizers, main course, and desert. All the food was wonderful. We got different drinks, but no wine. They have an extensive mixed drink menu and the ones we had were tasty.

There is entertainment every night and it always changes. The night we were there, a woman came in at about 8:30pm dressed in business wear and started working on a computer set up in the middle of the room. After a little while the DJ started playing 9-5 and she started singing along and dancing. After that she talked a little bit and then started going around with a microphone and talking to the different groups dining. It was hilarious! After that she came around and visited with everyone separately (with no microphone). If you eat there (and I highly recommend it) wear socks with no holes (since you take off your shoes) and wear comfortable clothes. I wore a skirt and that makes it a bit more difficult to move around on the bed, so just be aware of that.

The valet got us a cab when we were ready to leave. Since he spoke with the driver first, the driver used the meter without an argument so it didn't cost a bazillion dollars to get back to our hotel.
