Kerala - Kochin and Thrivanderam
From Around the World in 257 Days in Thiruvananthapuram, India on Feb 16 '07
Day 69-72 Kerela – Kochin / Thrivanderam.
In Kochin we hit the small narrow canal routes. It was soooo scenic and tranquil. People here sat in the water picking muscles and catching fish. If you wanted a coconut milk – a guy would climb the tree and cut off a coconut for you. We also went to a Kathakali dance show. This was quite an experience. We got to see the characters do their makeup and get dressed. It's a very long process and we were fortunate to see one of the last renowned Kathakali dancers around – sorry I've forgotten his name – it's probably jotted down somewhere. The show was an all nighter and reenacted stories from Krishna and the Mahabaratha. Kathakali is all about eye, facial and hand movements to tell the story.
Fortunate to see one of the last renowned Kathakali dancers around
