With great sadness I left Mission Beach today. Steve drove us to Cairns and we then headed up to Cape Tribulation, where we stayed the night. Along the way we stopped in Port Douglas, but it has turned into a very touristy town so we left after about half an hour. When we got to Cape Trib we 'camped', i.e. slept on a mattress in the back of Steve's car. It was a spectacular spot as we just had to walk through the trees to reach the beach, the sand on which was the consistency of icing sugar. That night it was a full moon so we sat on the beach with some beers and a couple of german guys joined us for an enjoyable night under the stars - we even bumped into (well, someone almost stepped on) a snake on the way back to camp. We'd also seen a 4m long crocodile just before the ferry crossing to reach Cape Trib; this was my first sighting of one, having spent 5 months in a place which apparently has lots of them living in the rivers and creeks.
On Tuesday we walked along the beach, then stopped and had some fantastic ice cream at an 'ice cream company'. In the afternoon we visited Mossman Gorge and did a walk, then drove a lot further south and stopped off for the night right next to another beach.
