Eating on top of the world...
From Round the World '07 in Bangkok, Thailand on Feb 03 '07
We haven't really felt like backpackers yet. What with staying at hotels, getting taxis and especially eating at The Sirocco on top of The State Tower in downtown Bangkok.
We'd done our research after a couple of recommendations and Adam booked the meal before we left England. It's the highest outdoor restaurant in the WOrld and we knew it wouldn't be cheap but thought it would be a great way to kick off the adventure - well, I love my food, Adam loves a classy restaurant, Natalie loves her classy places and Paul will go anywhere where beer is served!

The first thing that hits you is the view as you walk out looking towards the bar. Looking down on a city at night-time is the way Bangkok was meant to be seen. We were shown to our table and decided to all order a cocktail. I had a James Bond, asked for in the only possible way - shaken, not stirred.
The choices on the menu were fantastic. I would have been more than happy with half a dozen of the main dishes. In summary of what we had - Paul went for an Onion Soup followed by Barberie Duck, Adam had Carpaccio of Beef and Foie Gras Terraine to start and a Salmon Fillet with Roasted Eggplant for main. Natalie started with Riccotta and Spinach Ravioli and then had Pan Roasted Sea Bass and Tiger Prawn. I went for the French Onion Soup also and then had Seared Veal Medallion Topped with Riccotta Spinach Ravioli.
For dessert, Paul had another beer (not got a very sweet tooth!) and Adam went for a selection from the cake stand and wasn't disappointed with any of them, especially the Mocha Dark Chocolate Cake. I enjoyed a Blood Orange and Earl Grey Tea Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Grapefruit Sorbet while Natalie went for an Almond basket filled with a Vanilla Flan and topped with Strawberry and Mango sorbet.
I think it may have been the best meal any of us had had (well, except for my Mum's cooking!)
After the meal (probably best you don't know the price!!) we hung out at the bar, where you really get a feel for the height. All that's between you and a 65 storey drop is a piece of glass!
After that experience the backpacking starts now! While I don't think we'll have a better meal, we will certainly see some equally amazing views. Bring it on!
