Praha!
From Steve, Ken, and Darren's eurotrip! in Prague, Czech Republic on Sep 23 '06
Talking to people about the Czech Rep. may get you mixed reviews but dont be fooled, its deffinatly worth the time to "czech" it out. Prague as the capital is the largest city and extremley english/tourist friendly, to the point that its no longer terribly authentic or at the least watered down on the culture side. We visited during late sept. in hopes of avoiding crowds but no such luck as ive never seen so many 60 yr old tourists in the same place at the same time. The main streets are crowded and packed with walking tours which take away from the experience but again, dig a lil deeper and find the small places, the side streets, or the locals bar for a true taste of the culture. If you have a taste for architechture then you are going to be in heaven here, as even the mcdonalds are impressive structures towering high over the street with sculptures looking down on you. Take a walk through the old jewish communities, across the fabulous (St Charles ?) bridge , and climb the m,assive hill to the top where you will find Prague Castle watching over the city just as it would have years and years ago. Although the castle itself may not be totally accessible and not the learning experience of Edinburgh you will still be awed at the view over Prague and left speechless by the art in the church that the castle walls surround. Meander down through the hillside gardens ( or run if your inclined, personally running was a whle lot funner!) Explore the street markets or for a second stunning view, hike up the hill/mountain opposite the castle and grab an ice cream while staring out over the white houses , bridges and steeples rising every few blocks. If you are anywhere near the eastren side of Europe you simply must come see the Czech Rep and Prague as its simple to get around, safe, no language problems and quite honestly the most beautiful city i have ever seen, period.
