What's the beef?

Bazas is famous for its beef festival, which always happens on the Thursday before Shrove Tuesday. It's fun in a random way, as French festivals always are, with cows being dressed up with flowers and adverts for butchers (ironic in a slightly cruel way).
It also has an amazing cathedral with intricate stained glass windows and carvings, set in a picturesque town square which bustles with people frequenting the restaurants and shops around its perimeter.

One of these is the Bazas Beef Restaurant, made famous by Rick Stein in his slightly pretentious 'French Odyssey'. You can get a decent meal for under 20 Euros and there's lots of choice other than beef. The salads are particularly good.
