The Grand Canyon
From my trip round the world! in Grand Canyon, United States on Oct 27 '06
We arrived at the Grand Canyon in the early evening so our first view of the Canyon was as the sun was setting so that was pretty amazing! Took so many photographs but they defintely didn't do it justice! The main thing which impressed me was the sheer scale of the Grand Canyon which just isn't captured in any photo, well as least none of mine! After seeing the sunset we went down the road to watch the Imax film about the Grand Canyon. It was interesting film and gave some brilliant views so was defintely glad to have seen it, for some reason had thought it would be in 3D which would have been even better but was still pretty cool. Was staying in nice Lodge near the Canyon which had a bar and somewhere to eat so was nice to be able to go there in the evenings we were there. On the full day we had at the Canyon we started the day off with a Helicopter ride although i had been so nervous about oversleeping and missing it that couldn't sleep that well the night before! Even though the 30 minute helicopter ride wasn't exactly cheap I was so glad I did it as enjoyed it so much was one of the higlights of the trip so far. The view from the helicopter was amazing and gave an even better sense of the sheer scale of the Grand canyon, added to that I also just loved the whole helicopter experience! After the helicopter ride we stopped off and had a photo of eveyone at the Grand Canyon sign!
Did a bit of a hike a fair way down the canyon which was enjoyable bit pretty tough coming back up! Did it with a lot of the Australians who were on the tour and think they were all much more used to walking/hiking! Although I really enjoyed it a few hours of walking was defintely enough for me! I was really impressed with the Grand Canyon and even though we only had a short time there I was defintely glad that had the chance to go there as part of my trip as it is such an amazing place. I had expected the Grand Canyon to be amazing, but I think it exceeded my expectations and seeing it for the first time was pretty breathtaking as wasn't prepared for the sheer scale of it!
