Homestay
From My 1st time abroad in Merida, Venezuela on Sep 20 '99
We stayed with local families for 6 weeks. This was a huge
challenge for me, seeing as when I arrived I hardly spoke any Spanish
The nightlife in Merida was GREAT!
at all. But by the time I left I was much more able to
communicate with my family and we actually shared quite a bit with each
other. We took 4 hour classes each morning downtown...with a
coffee break in the middle. The little stand outside our school
sold strong sweet coffee in tiny little cups... as well as bottles of
Coke and many other little snack time goodies. The nightlife in
Merida was GREAT! We went dancing all the time... they really
know their Salsa and Merengue there! Some local guys even tried
to teach us a few times. Parties are great there... someone
always ends up with icing from a cake smeared all over their
face. I turned 21 and someone made me a really pretty little
white cake with strawberries... of course before I had a chance to but
the first piece I had icing smeared all over my face.
